Turmeric Paste

  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • 1/8 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ginger
  • pinch of cayenne

Remaining Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp water or plant-based milk
  • 2 cups plant-based milk almond and coconut milk are my favorite
  • 1-2 Tbsp liquid sweetener such as maple syrup or agave to taste
  • 1 tsp vanilla

  1. Add all the spices to your pot along with the tablespoon of water or milk. You want to create a thick paste and combine well so all lumps disappear (see photo above for reference).
  2. Add 2 cups of your plant-based milk and stir together until the milk becomes golden in color.
  3. Set your camp stove to medium heat and stir regularly. You don't want the milk to boil, but rather reach the point where it begins to foam (see photo above). This stuff boilers over quickly and suddenly, so don't turn your back on it!
  4. Allow to simmer/foam for 5-7 minutes until it reaches your preferred drinking temperature.
  5. Stir in the vanilla and sweetener and separate into two mugs.

Recipe Notes

* I found maca powder at La Vega produce market in Chile and added about a teaspoon for a nice nutty flavor. Score.
